as long as it is not fermented,there is rice wine,wheat beer,grape wine,the list is long...

that doesnt mean fruits and grains itself are haram

Its fine.  as someone mentioned, anything with sugar can be fermented, which is just about anything organic.

barley is a grain, u can turn anything with sugar into an alcohol if u allow it to ferment, sugarcane, grapes, potatoes, etc...
