If you plan on being a bartender it helps, you will learn about 300 drinks and shots or more. You can also start off at a bar IF they will hire you. The certificate will just help you get a jump start on a job - faster.

Bartending school was fun when I went. The test at the end was 15 drinks in 3 minutes BTW. No worries - most people pass it.

absolutely not. It cost anywhere between 500-1000 and sure they guarantee you a job, but where? At a local corporate restaurant? You'll make 100-150 on a good night , not worth it. Start by learning a few drinks. a GOOD margarita, Long Island Iced tea, pouring beer properly without it over flowing the glass, a couple of shots. you can learn all of these online. Try working some place as a bar back so you can learn from other bartenders. Work your way into the job, you'll be respected by your other bartenders more than coming out of bartending school. Most of the bartenders i know that make decent money, enough to live on, have worked their way into it and didnt go to school for it. You're likely to get laughed at walking into a decent or good bar and saying that you want a job b/c you went to bar school. Sure you may know your stuff, but you have no experience. Be humble,good bartenders will teach you what you need to know if you go about it the right way

And yes i run a bar and will not hire someone coming out of a school vs someone with experience that's worked their way up

I did it and got the job at a corporate restaurant and made decent money.  I was offered bar back job at a decent club...which maybe I should have taken, but I only worked till 12 instead of 3am.  (I was putting self through college and had early morning claases so it worked out)  Not as good money as those in trendy clubs though.  I admit I've got a face for radio, if your a guy it may help.  Chicks with a nice smile and rack get jobs with no experience so its tough.
