Apparently there has been a big increase in women working in this this type of occupation http://www.bls.gov/opub/ooq/2004/winter/oochart.pdf

If it reaches the point that more women work on cars than men, does working on cars then become a feminine activity?

  1. Why would it 'become' feminine just becasue girls like mechanics as well as guys?

    It's not a gender issue!

  2. the point is to not make a big deal out of women working on cars. do you really want everyone to label tasks as manly and feminine? please....

    I hate mechanics

its dirty ,greasy and i always hurt myself

And it makes getting your car fixed more pleasant

  7. While now it's generally considered a masculine job, I don't think that having more women working as mechanics would make it a feminine job. Eventually it would probably just lose its gender connotations and be considered a gender-neutral job.

  8. No, it's just a JOB. Who cares if it's feminine or masculine? Learning how to work on a car is an important skill for everyone who intends to drive.

  9. According to that same link, that would also make sewing a masculine activity.

  10. no. i don't regard working on cars as either a masculine or a feminine activity. it's just a job. *sigh*
