  1. I am a medical resident doing internal medicine for the US Air Force.  The majority of the time, I love my job.  I get to talk to people all day long and basically do word problems to make their lives easier, longer, or both.

The hours are long, and the paperwork is incredible, and every so often (more often than I'd like) you meet someone whose "air of entitlement" is such that they seem to think you were put on this earth to not only solve their problems, but to hear them bi#%$ at you while you do it, but the good parts make up for the bad most of the time.

  2. I can't speak to surgery, because it's not what I do, but the surgeons I know seem to like their jobs.  I keep their patients alive, though, and I love my job.

Not every minute of every day is fun, but overall, I have a good time with my job.  I love sticking needles in people (and nobody at home lets me do that!).  I love seeing physiology in action, and manipulating it to achieve what I need to do.  I like the acuity of the OR, and the lack of long-term care (some people are into that, but it's not me).  I like the people I work with.

I work hard, but I enjoy it.  It's a fulfilling career.

  3. Yes cutting people open then telling their family you messed up and their dead, then getting sued must be very rewarding. But you get some cash.
