Is being a human resource as a career hard?

Yes it can be, the person that mentioned their HR seemed to manage birthday parties and meetings is correct that is a part of some companies HR job duties.

But when you get into compensation, medical benefits, FMLA, wage analysis, employee handbooks, and new hire orientations not to mention that HR laws are changing all the time the job can be challenging to say the least.

It's a good career field, many of the larger companies have more than one HR person splitting up the duties.

Not judging by the last HR person at my former job..

her job seemed to consist of organizing birthday parties and inane mandatory meetings.

It is horrible. Go into another field if you can. You carry the briefcase of the boss but you have no power to make rules. You get fired for no reason when the company is sold. You can't have friends cuz you may have to fire them.
