  1. No one here can help you decide that.  It is entirely your decision on where you are and where you want to be, in say, 5 to 10 years, what is your best path to reach that goal.

  2. If you'll be signing up to enter as a lieutenant, you will go to Basic training (paid as an E-3 until you finish), then to Officer Candidate School (paid as an E-5 until you finish), then to Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) (paid as a lieutenant FINALLY after a year of training), then you will have specific training for the field that is CHOSEN for you. Officers are not given the luxury of choosing their field as enlistedmen are. It will be assigned to you on a "needs of the army" basis. They will tell you that you get a wishlist, but I can tell you...unless you request combat arms, you can keep wishing. My husband has a master's degree in counseling and he was assigned to field artillery.

If you have no problems with not having a stable (as stable as it can be in the army) life for at least a year, possibly taking an initial pay cut, are able to handle the physical demands of the army, and can surrender to the fact that you will have VERY little say in the next 8 years of your life (3 years MUST be active duty, 5 inactive ready reserve), you would be a great candidate for the army. It is definitely an adventure. Good luck!

  3. It really depends. I am a 1LT in the Army. Email me and I can try to answer specific questions.

  4. If your recruiter is trying to get you to enlist as a lieutenant, you better get it in writing.

Have him lay out exactly your duties will be as a lieutenant. For example will you be in charge of the motor pool or in charge of front line troops in Iraq.

I don't know what you are making now or what company you are working for, but if there is a chance for you to advance at this company, I would focus on that chance.

    Good luck!

    Al

  5. You'll have to look at the long-term benefits. Within three years you'll be promoted to Captain automatically. Your medical is free and the military helps with college. You probably have to manage more people in the military than in your current job and you will not be compensated for all the extra hours.

When joining the military you have to consider the big picture which includes deployments and frequent changes. If you have family these are very important considerations since it does not only affect you.

Google military pay charts 2008 and you'll see how much you'll be making as a brandnew LT and how much of a raise you'll get over the years. After approximately 10 yrs active duty you are up for promotion to Major. Compare the benefits at your current job and how much of a raise you can realistically expect, promotions, and so forth.

  6. No doubt he is trying HIS BEST to HELP you join the Army. Ya, manager usually sits in the comfort environment in A.C.

Lieutenant will shoot innocents in 100+ *Fh.

  7. YES, Army is always better. I'm an Army brat, my dad is a SGM now. Army secures insurance, housing, income, everything.
