  1. Yes. Stress it the result of the mind overriding the body's desire to to beat the c**p out of some dimwit who desperately deserves it.

And the some of the previous people that answered your question show why stress occurs.

  2. Well, I would say it's mainly because when you're a cop, nobody's ever happy when you show up. The perpetrators are naturally resistant, and even most victims are too angry and worried about what just happened to them to give you a proper welcome.

  3. You can get stressed or you can have a sence of humor about things. I get called at 3a.m on a tuesday to fix in 10 minutes what took them 10 years to mess up. It takes a certain type of person. The most important thing is to treat people with respect and be professional. There are a few cops out there tat mess it up for us all.

  4. i think that everybody knows that cop is a stressful job (at least when they think for a sec)!all what comes now is for all the people who talk that much bs about cops!

    -what do you do when

-the real bad guys are behind you (btw. don't think that most of you ever saw them)?

-somebody comes in to your house-somebody hit your car?

    -somebody hit your car?

YOU WILL CALL THE POLICE AND EXPECT THEM TO HELP YOU!!!

that's bs in my eyes!all the cop's put there live on the line and don't know if they come home in the morning and eat breakfast with there family!

but the best thing is that most of the people know there rights better than anything else!you all should work a cops job for one day!

think about all the cops who got killt in the line of duty (a prayer would be great too!

  5. It's stressful because you have a sign on your forehead that says "lie to me." And of course no one respects you. They talk c**p about you and then expect you to come running and see them as innocent when they need your help. We get a really bad rap about EVERYTHING. Not only that, but there are some dirty cops out there and almost everyone has been treated badly at least once by a cop (even me) and you never forget that so all officers take the rap for that one officers ignorance.

  6. Well, you have to go to work every day wearing a vest because people want to shoot you. I'd say that's pretty stressful. And everyone who complains about the police are the first ones to complain when they don't come fast enough when needed. There is no making some people happy.

  7. lol

Do you ever listen to the conversations around you when walking down a street or sitting at a bus stop?

They are the dumbest things you'll ever hear in your life.

Now imagine having to hear that story over and over again all day, every day.  It gets to you after awhile.  That lady who keeps saying how some kids are wrecking up her yard and wants them arrested while they are just sitting on some steps chatting with one another.

People in general are extremely annoying, idiotic creatures and cops have to listen, write down, and follow up on every little detail of that person's story.

Of course we also have our drunks and druggies.  Every other night you have to haul the same person to the station for the same thing and every time you do that you have to chase them or fight them.  It gets old real quick.

Then you add in the dangerous call every once in awhile, which actually become exciting to get out of this mundane busy work.  Though when you arrive at the scene it turns out the guy killed himself, his wife, his kids, and his baby or just himself and another or just himself, etc.  You mentally now have to deal with that and get those "ghosts" out of your mind.  Which no one ever really does.

Not to mention when you actually do get the drug dealer off the street, arrested the rapist, save a hostage, the general public spits on you for tazering a druggie who was becoming out of control or for beating on a suspect rapist or killer because he tried to grab your gun.

It's a thankless job and no one really takes the time out to imagine life in their shoes, instead we judge all cops by the actions of a few.

  8. Interesting question and a good one. While some of those who answered first thought they were funny, I will try to give you my view after about twenty years doing the job. The real issues for me were that the police are never called when things are going well. If you think about it no one would ever think to call the police when everyone is happy and getting along. But, Christmas day when Dad gets drunk, beats Mom and the kids and trashes the house, then we get called. So for me holidays are not and have not been a time of joy like they should be. I got to handle call after call from unhappy drunk people that are fighting because the turkey is over done, or some other stupid reason. Stabbings shootings and violence tend to get worse around the holidays for instance. Wives call you because husbands (or boyfriend or whatever) beat them. They then turn on you when you try to help them. Including the knife wound in my back from helping or thinking I was helping a wife who was beaten senseless.

I have had friends murdered by making a simple traffic stop, one going to a littering call and one on a search warrant. Two of those were just everyday nothing calls that were not what they seemed in the end. So we get gripped at (you see it here all the time) for not being happy and joyfull when we pull you over or respond to your call for service. We all know that you can die or be attaked at any time and death is riding next to us all the time.

The things that others watch on TV for entertaiment we live. Dead bodies are not so clean as TV would have you believe. They also smell very bad. So bad in fact that you wake up at times dreaming of the smell. Dead children, families and loved ones are a constant source of stress. People who lie constantly are not fun.

It got to the point where I was arresting the grandchilren of the people I arrested when I first started.

Then you throw in a patrol Lieutenant that is a r****d and the awfull hours (24/7 after all) days off in court, vacations cancelled because of low staffing levels and you have a great ulcer and loads of stress.

Yes Virginia it is the best most stressful job I am proud of having done. And, if the retards see a cop taking a minute with a cup of coffee to write the endless reports that are required, so be it.

  9. Law enforcement is like water... It follows the path of least resistance.

That's why the guy in the rusty truck will get arrested for a joint, before the guy in the new porsche gets arrested for cocaine.

After finding out who you are not allowed to arrest, due to their family connections, most of your time will be spent dealing with meaningless trivial complaints, handing out tickets, and doing paperwork.During this period, drug dealers and rapists will roam free.

If cops really don't eat donuts, then  they must have other means of becoming obese.

  10. For one take a few of the answer at the top and that is the attitude we get most every day.......and for the rest, well I don't think it could have been said much better than Wally59.

It's going to be stressful for everyone in different ways, it's all about how you look at it.  No matter how stressful it gets I can't forget the nights I'm bouncing off the walls because I'm so excited to get out there......and that's after 9 years........

  11. i here it is and dont listen to the people who say they sit on there *** and east donuts not true.
