I am majoring in Entrepreneurship and strive to own my own business. I am wondering if being a self employed real estate agent would give me some experience to later succeed in being a business owner?

  1. No, you'd learn a lot more working in a real office with rules, procedures, and guidelines.  Realtors work alone a lot of the time so there is nobody to learn from.  That's why there are so many horrible realtors.

  2. Any employment experience will help you as a business owner.  Real estate agents are in sales, so experience you gain there will help you in sales.  It will not however give you any experience or insight into accounting, finance, marketing, or operations.  I am oversimplifying what a real estate agent does, but in general I think you would gain more experience by looking for a job as a book keeper.  You will probably make less money than a real estate agent, but the work is more pertinent to being a business owner.

  3. I don't think so.  What kind of business are you trying to start?  Find what you like, and find a way to make money at it.  Read books.  Get a mentor.  Study people.

  5. it may sound like a good idea but the real estate market is going down and if you become fully involved in it then it could cause you to lose lots of money and could lead to being bankrupt. if i were you i would apply for a job for a real-state  company and get some experience then peruse your dream of becoming a business owner!

    Good luck
