I just got a job as a unit secretary for an adolescent psychiatric unit and I was wondering how hard of a job it is being a secretary for a hospital unit. I have some secretarial experience but I'm actually going to this job from another job I had on the unit (long story). I'm nervous, so any information is appreciated. Just be nice :)

  1. no, taking orders off charts and putting in computer.Answering phones, receptionist, discharging pt.It's been a long time since I work as Unit Secretary, you got experience similar to that I'm quite sure you do fine.Oh yeah I hope you up to speed in medical terminology.

  2. I don't know about a psychiatric unit, but in a regular hospital I can say that it can get stressful, especially working with doctors you are jerks. But on the other hand, if you do your job well and know what you are doing you will be fine! Since you have secretarial experience that will be a plus and hopefully you have an idea of medical terminology that will help you.

Good Luck!! Remember, all jobs are stressful at some point in time.

  3. It's not that hard only thing is that it is very busy, and all the doctor's and nurses hang at the unit where the secretary work.
