  1. You can make decent money if you can last the first two years. 95% of agents fail the first year and half of the remaining fail during the second year because there is usually more going out than coming in.

If you are good at talking with people, able to learn the product you're selling inside and out as well as learning the competition, and can work 80 hour weeks the first two years you'll do fine.

  2. I don't know about being one. But paying one is a pain. cause you never know what you get until you have a loss.

  3. Brutal.

I have taken on over seventy people in my organization.  Almost all are gone now.  The newest ones are making the attempt, fortunately.

Most of the people are looking for somethiing easy and steady.  This industry is only easy and steady after about the third year.  But the rewards are well worth the effort.

In this profession, especially if you are very good, then you can have residuals that are greater than the income of most all other 'normal' careers.   But you MUST stick with it!!!

I think I had been hiring anybody that was able to stand.  Now my most productive agent is an elderly lady whom I never thought would make it.   She is methodical.  Every day she puts in real effort.  In less than three years she will be on top.

Now if only three others like her would come along, I could retire.

  4. It is very hard to be an agent, ESPECIALLY for Farmers Insurance.  Make money?! Most Farmers agents actually lose money out of their own pocket on all the expenses they are required to pay.

  5. I am not familiar with Farmer's, but I can give general advice.

Independent agents see VERY rough times in the beginning. We have learned in our agency that you have to love the insurance that you are writing.

For example, we are right on Lake Cumberland here, so the other agent and I both grew up around the lake and houseboats, so we concentrate on marine insurance and commercial marine insurance. We write marinas, docks, boat dealers, etc.

Bottom line....you have to love it or you WILL hate it!

    Hope this helps

  6. You can make great money - over $100,000 a year. You have to really like people, get involved in many organizations and not afraid to work loger hours as you get established.

Find a mentor that could help you get started - that is the best advice I could give you.
