  1. Its a job that's often pure stress every day, day in and day out.  I don't know that I'd say that it's fun so much as I'd say that its challenging.  Yes it can be rewarding at times, but mostly its pure stress.  Every day you hear the banging of cell door/gates and you are reminded that you are locked up right along with them.

Its a job where you are dealing with the worst of the worst every day that you are on the job. You are always dealing with people that you can never turn your back on, or you may not go home again.  There is always the threat of getting spit on, fecal matter or urine thrown on you.  You often deal with people who have mental disabilites who do not always know what they are doing.  Often they will smear fecal matter on their face or on the walls.   They will eat toilet paper soak with urine.

Every day you that you go to work you run the risk of getting killed at work and never seeing your family members again.  You run the risk of getting stuck with needles, cut with razors or stuck with a shank ( home made knife).  There is always the threat of being taken hostage, or having a riot break out on your unit.

The echelon often do not like you, the inmates hate you and you are in the middle walking a fine line between the two.  The stress level is extremely intense and often stays that way through out your day.

You never know when your going to walk up on some one attempting to commit suicide via hanging,  and you have to cut them down.  You never know when your going to come across some one who's had their throat slashed and has numberous stab wounds as well.  You never know when they are planning an escape and they are planning on killing you to be able to do it.

No matter what you see or what happens, you are always expected to keep your cool and be able to deal with the situation that's taking place at the moment.   You are expected to be a professional no matter what is happening, no matter what some one is doing.

As I stated above, it's more challenging than it is fun.  It isn't a job that every one is able to do day after day, and make it their career choice.

  2. it is never fun. everything you become involved with has a negative picture.at times it can be rewarding. the politics will always keep the job from being fun.what a officer will develope is a warped sense of humor.you will laugh at things that will only be funny to you and the fellow officers.it is extremely stressfull now because it is so dangerous and political. a officer is not to show emotion and this causes a great deal of stress for the officer and their family.there is very little respect for officers now.the officer should learn their job well. their training will always help and also may save your life.

  3. A police Officer?

Not at all, you come in contact day in and day out with the scum of the world. Rapists, murders, druggies, child abusers.

You kiss your family good bye before every shifting not knowing if you will see them.

  4. I find it very exciting.

If you want a boring officer job looking at a computer all day go ahead do a dance.

Know if you wanta fun filled exciting job like a Police or Sheriff GO FOR IT.

No call or day is the same.

And it is not everyday that you come into contact with rapist and all of that 55% of all calls are actually domestic violance. It all depends on what division you want to get into.
