Yes, it is a compliment. It means the person being called 'sensible' has a level head, makes good decisions and thinks about possible consequences.

It probably isn't 'fun' being the sensible one, but think about it--- you don't have to apologize for saying stupid or rude things, you don't have to 'pay' for doing stupid or rude things and people will believe you and trust you in the future with more important things.

Sensible can be synonymous with responsible.  I would take it as a compliment.  It is the same as being called cautious.  Doesn't sound like much of a compliment but it is better than the opposite.

I think sensible is definitely a compliment.  Except when it comes to shoes.  Sensible shoes are boring.  However, sensible people are wonderful.  The world would be a much better place if we had more sensible people.

I would accept it as a compliment. Depends on ones age tho. Although I do not wish to tar all youth with the same brush, young immature people see it as uncool to be sensible which is why there are so many strict laws regarding youngsters. Just a pity the laws are not enforced enough. Think about young drivers and young drinkers etc are always in the limelight for causing trouble and accidents. Like I said tho, they should not all be tarred with the same brush as I do know some very sensible youths and to balance things out some very immature adults.

It used to be.  That is the sensible thing to do, meant it was the common sense thing to do  - ie, you are using your grey matter.

Many words have been corrupted in today`s teenspeak world...sometimes even meaning the opposite to what they used to mean.

g*y for instance, used to mean Happy.

If someone is `mad for it ` now, it means they are very enthusiastic for s*x.

But mad also means angry.

So maybe `sensible` now means you are a bit of a geek!!
