I thought it was until yesterday. Well, gluttony (overeating etc) I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. After all this time of feeling like I was c**p because I was overweight (sinning)...I realize that sometimes being fat is uncontrollable. (w/o meds)

  1. Being fat is NEVER condemned in the bible.

    Gluttony is!

If one is obese because of gluttony then it would be a sin.

I know many people, especially older people, who take steroid shots for bad joints and they gain weight. They are not gluttons!

I hope the best for you!

  2. Gluttony is a sin.

Medical conditions and family traits are not sins.

  3. When someone has total control over what they eat and how much of it they eat and become obese, then yes, it's a sin.

When someone is medically diagnosed with a disease that does not allow them to control how much weight they gain, then no, it's not a sin.

  4. No it's not :)

  5. gluttony is a sin

  6. Gluttony is a sin.

Being the victim of a thyroid disorder is not...

Many, many people have both problems.

  7. Me too!

Then i though it might be! but it is probably a very small sin compared to many other things i did in my life! I started to worry less about it and think more about how i should influence others' lives rather than mine.

  8. yes and you will burn in h**l hahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahah...

  9. no, absolutely not, unless, as you pointed out, that obesity is result of gluttony.

  10. I'm sorry for you.

    I'm thin.

  11. No, being overweight is not a sin...And who ever told you that is a liar and a MORON!

"Gluttony" is a whole other story and applies to many things...not just over eating.

Hypothyroidism is a medical condition in which you cannot place blame or guilt on someone for having it.  Thank GOD for Medical Technology.  Hope your physician can help bring your unfortunanant medical condition under control.

P.S.- Don't listen to LIARS! who tell you that it is a sin.

  12. You are so right!

Before people judge, they should be aware of others' circumstances.

I feel your problem and I wish you all the best.

I have been figthing with anorexia for most of my adolescence. Then I recovered, but always been scared of putting on weight. Now my fiance is overweight and I realized that it doesn't matter the least to me - I still love him with all my heart.

  13. Greediness is a sin, so if that is the reason you are fat then yes!

  14. no, being fat is not a sin, other than the fact that gluttony or overindulgence in anything that harms the temple of the Holy Spirit is.

  15. Yeah, about 1/10th of 1% of fat people in the United States have a medical condition that would account for their obesity.  For the vast majority of people, being fat is not a medical condition it is a lifestyle choice.

For all the fatties out there that keep saying "oh I don't why I keep gaining weight.  I don't eat all that much....", try keeping a diary of EVERYTHING you eat every day for a few weeks.  Hopefully you'll quickly realize that you do, in fact, eat way too much!

  16. You're absolutely right that people shouldn't judge others over being fat because there's no way of knowing why.

I have a friend with hypothyroidism too. She does not eat too much, but has the same problem .

Just worry about your own nutrition. If you are eating healthy that's all you need to know.

  17. Bless you in your struggles with those extra pounds. No it is not a sin. But if you hadn't of gotten help and just let your body fall into disrepair it would have shortened your life and your opportunities for enlightenment. Namaste

  18. Your body is a temple and you should take care of it.

But that could be taken many ways.

if being fat is a sin, so is being too skinny.

but either way you should try to be healthy and happy(:

  19. The whole sin / bible thing is just a way to control those who are different.  It is all marketed toward guilt.  Guilt kills.

  20. I know someone who is so obese she can't walk. I think that is a SIN - to let yourself get so fat you can't walk? I have trouble believeing she can't help it.

Yes, maybe she has hypothyroid, or whatever, but it's one's responsibility it keep it within reason.

  21. I don't think being fat is a sin. Frankly, the way some people treat fat people SHOULD be a sin, though.

  22. No, and it never was.  In the days of famines and droughts, "gluttony" was never about overeating, but about hoarding food away from other people who were hungry.  In our day, with a reliable food supply, it has been reduced to a superficial fashion statement.  There are actually more poor fat people than rich ones because poor people don't have access to high quality food (or dietitians and personal trainers).  The sin now is in being obsessed with ones appearance without considering the needs of those in want.
