  1. homeschooling is good for some not for others i love it myself but some dont it has been a wonderful program for my son

  2. It has been great for us! Most HS kids and parents love it passionately. There is alot to love. That does not mean it is best for everyone. HS is what you make it. You have to do what works best for your family.

  3. You're answers here will be completely biased because the homeschoolers are sitting on this website all the time answering questions like this while kids in public schools are in the classroom learning.

  4. It all depends on your situation. If it is a bad atmnosphere at the school, it is probably better for you to homeschool. You may not get the friends and dances that you get at regular school, but you could always make friends by goinng to homeschool groups and such. For the most part, many kids like to be homeschooled. But just remember...it all depends on your situation....what will better you in the end? :)

  5. Of course it depends on the family, but we have seen some great results in our homeschool community and in our own family.

  6. My answer on this has changed since being active in Y!A.  I did think that it was best for every child.  Now, that I see the uninformed  and prejudiced answers from a few of the online population, I think that there are a few instances that children should not be homeschooled.    I had not realized before reading some of the answers here that there are still many 'backwoods' people who cannot socialize or learn without being in a controlled environment such as public school.

So you see, Y!A has enlightened me on the diversity of our universe.   There are still a few  people who cannot think without someone telling them what to think.   Their children need public school.

Homeschool does however work for our family.   We enjoy having freedom to learn and freedom to make friends with a variety of people.

  7. No education is "great", in that no method guarantees success in all aspects.  Home-schooling requires a family commitment to be successful (if only 1 parent, or only the child is behind it then it's probably not a good idea).

    The pros include:

    1) Totally individualized learning plan for each child

    2) Scheduling flexibility (not tied to 8 - 3 hours)

    3) Learning can occur at own pace

    4) Student is free to pursue areas of interest often not available in a public school

    The cons include:

    1) Requires much more self motivation (child and parent)

    2) Can be costly for family buying own educational material

    3) Requires extra effort to develop social connections

  8. It probably depends on the situation but most of the homeschooled kids I know, mine included, enjoy it.

  9. I am from a homeschool or as we called it home taught family. I was pulled from public school in first grade due to a problem I know now I was to young to understand. It became the most rewarding times so far of my life. We traveled and learned that I soon realized life on the daily basis was learning. I finished my high school years being home taught and also taking basic college coarses. I had two years of college done when I finally started college at 18, I worked and learned and lived those college years just like I eas at home. I learned the responsiblility was mine to move foward and Im 23, self employed, married, own our own home and love  and live life as i was raised to do. Thanks Mom and Dad ,  Yes I have said this many times to them.  We all need to be unschooled at times to remember what is important.

  10. Parental involvement is the key to a successful primary & secondary education.

This is true for home, public, online and private school.

If the parent(s) are willing to make the commitment, then homeschooling can be wildly successful.

  11. Myss' response is exactly why children should be home-educated -- so they won't make blanket statements about a subject with which they are completely unfamiliar!

  12. That entirely depends.  Your going to need very smart parents, with a lot of free time.  On top of that kids need to be social so its important they play spots or are involved in some kind of group activities. With that said, I think it would provide children the opportunity to move at their own pace as well as ask questions with out feeling nervous or stupid.

  13. Home schooling is a very bad idea....The child does not get the atmosphere of the school where he can learn a lot of things from..He should get the friends, teachers, & every thing free from  prohibitions .Many kids cannot learn that much in a home than school!
