I've just noticed most gymnasts are very short (at least 5'2 or under) is it because being short is seen as an advantage in the sport?

  1. Yeah it is, but i'm going to be honest. Taller people just look nicer doing the events and more graceful too! Look at Shawn Johnsons Routines and then Look at Nastia's Routines, who's are prettier to watch?

  2. absolutely! being short is one of the best advantages for a gymnast. i'm not sure why exactly, but there aren't too many taller gymnasts in the Olympics and big competitions like that because they can't through the stunts as well as shorter gymnasts. now having said that, it doesn't necessarily mean that every short person is going to be the next Shawn Johnson. tall gymnasts can be just as good if not better then some shorter gymnasts, but it usually takes them a little bit longer. well i hope that answers your question! =D  <33

  3. Yeah, I'd say so.

One of my little sisters, Emily is short for her age, and has done fantastically at gymnastics.

  4. well the shorter you are the lower center of gravity you would have, so yes it is an advantage,.

  5. yep! i just watched Bela Karolyi say it is an advantage since the center of gravity is closer to the floor, just like the first answerer! i'm tall and thats part of my problem with holding handstands :-P

  6. I think.. I'm gonna get hated for this, but its cause they can't do any other sport, cause they are too short.

    XD

  7. I think it mite be but i am not entirely sure. I'm a gymnast and I am 5'3 and tall for my age. Everyone i so gymnastics with are very short and usually skinny too. I think maybe it might help a little bit but i dont think it makes much difference!
