  1. I don't think you will ever see an analysis that says that it is not a success.

In contrast, the Greek Olympics of 2004 are perceived as a long term financial failure. One could argue that an expenditure of $11 billion is huge for a country with a GDP of $314 billion.

    ---------

Setting the bar so high will make it somewhat difficult to expand the scope of the settings for the olympics. It would be nice to see the Olympics hosted in Brazil. Certainly it would be very exciting to see the Olympics in South Africa.

  2. Don't know yet.

The tickets; the auctions of memorabilia; Paralympic tickets; 45% Tourist interest in China after watching the Olympics starts October; Almost $1 Billion from NBC adds up to $45 Billion...yes it is a success.

  3. I don't think that this question can be answered yet.  I don't think any country goes into hosting the games with the idea of going into debt yet it is apparent that other cities have struggled with it for years.

  4. yes

  5. In the short term NO. but in the long term It will be a great benefit to china economically.

In theory it is a city that bids for the right to hold the olympic games but for a long time now the grandeur of these events is such that they require not only the national governments but also the wealth of private sponsorship to make them financially attainable.

but with all the broadcasting and merchandise and licensing rights they are a great money spinner.

Also the value of the public relations and branding of China as a tourist destination is beyond measuring as it wll be an income for as long as I can see.

So yes " Hats of to China" for the great success of the 2008 Olympics

  6. I think it is, it has increased further interest in China and has provided another picture to the world that is not about being the largest manufacturing base.

  7. In a way, I think yes. They built and operate for long term benefits.

  8. Well I'm saving my pennies to visit Beijing now....so if others around the world are thinking like me then there will be a boost to tourism
