  1. Comparing biodiesel to gasoline doesn't make much sense, but in general diesel engines are more fuel efficient than gasoline engines.  This is due to the higher compression (volume) ratios found in diesel engines, and the higher energy density of diesel fuel.  A diesel engine (45% energy efficient) is between 40 to 50% more efficient than a gasoline engine (30% energy efficient).

However, petrol diesel takes about 25% more oil to make than gasoline, so from well-to-tank diesel is really only about 20% more efficient than gasoline.

Comparing biodiesel to petrol diesel, biodiesel has a lower energy density than petrol diesel, but it makes up for it with better engine lubrication and more complete combustion.  Biodiesel is about 2% less efficient than petrol diesel.

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel

the Price of soybeans has risen... biodiesel is no longer as cheap as one thought it would be...

also... it takes billons of dollars to build the biodiesel plants

its just about as efficient really... and you can run it in a regular diesel engine -- no special one is needed like most think

  3. two totally different engines. that's like saying whats better an apple or an orange.

you could compare conventional diesel with biodiesel which are fairly close in cetane rating with bio slightly higher
