Most cases of bipolar disorder affect people who also have relatives with the condition; so it is a likely connection to make. However, there are some individuals who have zero blood relatives afflicted. More often than not, it does run in genetic lines, but is not a 100% predictor that a child of a parent who is bipolar will also be.

No, it is not.  Its more likely for you to get it though if you have a family history of it.

There are many factors, one of which being a chemical imbalance, either from not eating healthy or medications (like anti-stress, anti-depressants) that can contribute to the disorder.

A lot of the time people's life experiences lead to manic depression, for example post traumatic stress disorder (which many soldiers get) or other traumatic events like rape, or death in a family.

bipolar is the new decease. it's manic depressive, which is a mood disorder.Today, a growing volume of research suggests that bipolar disorder occurs across a spectrum of symptoms, and that many people aren't correctly diagnosed.

I know lots of people with "mood disorders".

No way. It's nature versus nurture. Bipolar disorder can be caused by environmental factors, such as the stress and anxiety around your workplace, or school issues.

drugs can cause it (illegal ones and if the person has a predisposition--antidepressants can send them into mania)
