Is blood an ingredient in ketchup? (as a 'natural flavoring'?)?

Corey Feldman says that animal blood is used as a "natural flavoring". Makes sense to me! But is it true?

  1. no this isnt true, ketchup is made of tomatos and seasonings. so dont listen to what that person told because it isnt true besides you could read the ingredients on the bottle. if animal blood was in ketschup every ketchup company would be closed down by the health inspectors. you have nothing to worry about.

  2. if that's true.... many vegetarians out there will be having heart attacks... just kidding, nah i don't think that's true

  3. Did you know the average person swallows eight spiders in their lifetime during their sleep!  You Murderer!

  4. MAYBE this is true of things with very llttle meat they want to taste like it has more. Maybe.

Anyway ketchup if mostly tomato sauce and vinegar. The label should give the codes for what is in the product. Look up the codes on one of these sites (the second one is an Australian site, but the additive codes are international)

  5. Yes, there's tomato blood in ketchup :-)

Basic ingredents: Tomato concentrate, spirit vinegar, corn syrup salt, spice and herb extracts, celery, garlic powder, cloves, cinnamon, onion, and other vegetables.

  6. "Natural" flavor (or color) is very often derived from animal sources-not just the blood, but other parts you wouldn't even want to think about.  Just because something is "natural" does not mean I want to eat it.  Lets face it, dog poo and cyanide are "natural" too, but I don't plan to eat either of those any time soon, either.  I avoid "natural" flavors and colors, as well as preservatives and other questionable ingredients.  My rule of thumb is:  If I can't pronounce it, or readily identify where it came from, I don't eat it.  That means I have to make everything from scratch, but it beats eating the garbage that passes for "food" these days.

  7. Ketchup is nothing but blood..didnt you know that..!?  LOL

  8. The ingredients in a typical modern ketchup are tomato concentrate, spirit vinegar, corn syrup or other sugar, salt, spice and herb extracts (including celery), spice and garlic powder. Allspice, cloves, cinnamon, onion, and other vegetables may be included.

  9. no, its nonsense. A documentory on UK TV this week mentioned "Blood in ketchup" - it was clearly a joke.

  10. corey feldman is an idiot besides if blood was an ingredient dont u think more vampires would go grocery shopping

  11. WHY does it make sense to you?  Are you a cook?  Have you ever taken a course in Food Sci & Technology?  Have you bothered even looking up a ketchup recipe?

...Some people will believe anything, I suppose...

  12. No! Besides, Corey Feldman is pretty crazy.

  13. That ain't true!! Are you crazy? Do you taste it like that? No!! It's made with TOMATOES!!!

  15. NO

  16. NO it is not. Interesting question though. Natural flavorings usually mean a mix that makes their product taste different than their competitors.
