  1. "Fugu contains lethal amounts of the poison tetrodotoxin in the internal organs, especially the liver and ovaries, and also the skin. Therefore, only specially licensed chefs are allowed to prepare and sell fugu to the public, and consumption of the liver and ovaries is forbidden.

Yet, a number of people die every year from consuming improperly prepared fugu. The poison, a sodium channel blocker, paralyzes the muscles while the victim stays fully conscious, and eventually dies from asphyxiation. Currently, there is no known antidote, and the standard medical approach is to try to support the respiratory and circulatory system until the poison wears off."

That doesn't sound like something I'd be willing to try.  Not even for a couple of million!  Not even for a Bazillion dollars.  Now I might be convinced to try it if given a Klondike bar.  ( ^ _ ^ )

  2. When I was a chef and worked in Japan I had the "full" fugu or blowfish meal, it involves sushi, a fried dish and soup made from the bones and some meat, the sushi can leave your lips a bit numb but the other course are fine, and I had no problems, in Japan the masters only do the cutting, not like the episode of the "Simpsons", you have to be licence to do it, and the internal organ are disposed of in a locked can and take to an incinerator to be destroyed, they are not just tossed out with the trash or the entire cat and raccoon population of Japan might be dead by now.

  3. bragging rights

The fugu is actual quite bland.
