Is boiling tap water in California really safe?

I live in southern california. My sister lives in oregon where you can drink tap water out of the sink. I usually boil water using drinking water. Does boiling tap water really get rid of the impurities?

boiling water kills bacteria, but does not get rid of impurities such as minerals in the water. to do that you would have to distill it, catching the steam and allowing it to re condense into pure water.

Boiling will kill microorganisms which can make you sick by infecting you. It does nothing about disolved lead, etc., which can make you sick by poisoning you.

Are you talking about water from a public water supply? Or your own well?
