  1. no.........................not really

  2. to some people it may be barbaric because they r taking the sport personally. But some people think of it as just a sport, and those r the people u should be listening to. I think its a sport  that requires alot of quick thinking. Good on you for wanting to look more into it :)

  3. Boxing is no more barbaric than anything else in life.

  4. ha hey boxin rocks. i wish i could box! my legend of a friend tried to teach me, ended up with a bleeding lip from some idiot actually smacking me full force in the face!! and it wasn't even a real spar just messing!!!!

  5. What constitutes barbarism? Boxing is the art of hitting without being hit. But what would make it barbaric? Injuries? Fatalities? The simple fact that there is blood involved?

It that is the criteria, then blogbaba is correct!

Injuries are prevalent in all sports, even bowling!

Fatalities, did you hear about that firstbase coach who was struck by a foul ball and killed last year? Do more people die in the ring or in a race car?

Blood? Did you see that hockey player who got his neck slit for the Panthers last week? Now I've never seen a fighter bleed like that!

My point is, what is barbaric and where does barbarism end? I haven't even touched on the x-treme sports! Mountain climbing, rock climbing, bungy jumping, skydiving, xtreme skiers etc

How about driving a car? Is that barbaric? It has all the 3 that I've mentioned, injuries, death and blood. Where does it end?

  6. I was made to watch the Friday night fights with my entire family, inculding my grandma at a very early age, and I didn't really know what was going on or why.  I just knew it was very important and exciting to everyone involved, the boxers, the crowd on TV and of course my family.  Daddy would yell "Hey Ms. Taylor the fights are on, and my grandma would come running.  Uncle Harry would pop the TV Time pop corn and daddy woul pass out the Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer, not to me of course.  I would hear names like Floyfd Patterson, Joe Louis and later Sugar Ray, I'am talking about Robinson, not Lenoard,(smile).  Everyone would be yelling and screaming for their guy.  They only agreed if it was one of the above mentioned.  It was wonderful except when someone would cuss and I was sent out of the room, or when someone

would mention they didn't think a little girl should be watching the fights.  We used to listen on the radio, until the day daddy brought home that wonderful TV.   Sometimes it seemed not only our entire building, but the whole neighborhood was piled into our living room to watch the awesome event of the Friday night fights.  This was the sport of Kings,  and cousin Bobby had been doing great until he had to go in the service, I was constantly told by everyone.

I grew up thinking to be a boxer had to be the most thrilling, exciting, important job in the world, and still think it's great at the age of 62!  I just don't understand the "kick boxing" as well as I knew about, jabs and uppercuts back in the day!!

No I don't think it is barbaric,I think it's the sport of "KINGS"!!

    (SMILE)!

  7. It seems that you've taken too many blows to the head. Your speech is becoming incoherent already........

Is boxing a barbaric sport? Yes and No. First you need to define what barbarism is; have a look here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarian

Then you need to determine what are the effects of boxing on the pugilists (other than the millions of dollars and fame women etc....) over the span of his career.

Also see if it can be classified as an actual sport or source of entertainment (why not bring back the colleseum of ancient rome)

It might be......but I don't know.......I like the sweet science....

  8. Boxing as a hobby itself is quite barbaric, its a blood sport and ppl just go to see other ppl get the **** kicked outta them. I also lioke drinking WICKED(WKD) and wearing fat mans pants(and boardy shorts) and listening to two pack.

and i do love my carmex.

  9. i dont think its barbaric. there are rules set up to make it a sport. not some mindless bash fest. like any sport its a test of strength and will. its just that some ppl choose to take the game personally and take personal feelings it in. thats why ppl call it barbaric. the ref is there to control the match. he wont keep the fight going if 1 party looks like its not gonna make it. it aint barbaric
