  1. Yes boxing is a great base style. If you a re proficient in boxing it makes learning Muay Thai easier. These two arts are the basis of the larger style  of " Sprawl and Brawl" made famous by the likes of Chuck Liddell, Phil Baroni and Jens Pulver.  There goal is to keep the fight standing long enough to to hit the sweet spot and put the opponent down and out. These guys are using what god gave them " Heavy Hands" meaning they have the natural ability to punch hard and can almost guarantee themselves a win by landing a good clean blow. So for them although all three are accomplished wrestlers, choose to spend the majority of there time working on their hands because doing anything else is liking telling a Rhino to run form a fight. Yes, he can probably can run away and might be pretty good at it. But, he can d**n sure gore your *** your *** like quite frankly a Rhino....

  2. yeah a good boxing base should help u in mma, as long as ur incorporate the rest of the game, kicks, ground fighting, boxing gives u that one punch knock out power, which is great

  3. It's an excellent base style, provided you're good at it.

A good example is Marcus Davis who is 14-4 in MMA, though only 5 of his wins are KO's.

  4. but there are also a lot of mma fighters with mainly jiujitsu or wrestling backgrounds, and it seems like most of the bouts ends with submissions so....

  5. Yea alot of good MMA fighters have boxing backgrounds.

  6. Most often, MMA fighters are trained with a good set of both striking, and grappling skills.

It makes a bit of sense. Flashy kicking, and extended acrobatics are at a disadvantage when locked inside a cage against a grappler, who would only need the ground he walks on to fight.

Once you have someone pinned down to the ground, that's where the boxing background can come in handy.

  7. Yes.  A wicked left hook or a straight right hand will end the fight instantly!  Western Boxing is a Martial Art in itself.

  8. It can be, but you'd have to switch to something else early on, or you are liable to never get your mind around defense vs. kicks and grappling.

  9. Boxing is great, realistic fighting style for anyone, especially someone wanting to do MMA. UFC legend Don Frye was attacked by a boxer in a casino hotel a few years ago and he was beaten pretty badly. I don't know if the boxer could have beaten Don Frye in the Octagon, but his punching skills paid off in a street fight with him.
