  1. There still are grudge matches in boxing between two opponents that have faced each other before . They call it "bad blood".

As a trained boxer but too old to box in the ring and a female, I think that you need to put up an angry or leering look to your opponent. Fighters do want to win. I don't who said they didn't unless they deliberately take a fall on bets on on that fighter. Everything is about money and it's a business like all sports these days except for the Olympics and amateur levels. I can tell you that it doesn't seem to be about race, but going in the ring and staring down an opponent before the Round 1 bell starts is part of the mindset. While in any sports and team sports there are winners and losers, most of us really care and want to win. Much is at stake and that title, besides the money is what they want still. If the winner gets his/her belt, they are ecstatic ! They win then go on to fight on the same level and weight class former champions. Whatever I do, I set out to win and while I lose and there's disappointment, if you love the game, you put on that game face and you set out to beat your opponent. Fighting in AC and Boston are huge bouts and I watch them. The women can be particularly violent and seem to have more stamina than the men. Jamie Clampett and Missy Fiorella are perfect examples of that. Missy took the championship belt off of Jamie and Missy fights more like a street fighter.  I don't know who told you that but I don't believe it at all. Boxing to win and get other bouts is their "bread and butter" and they are still proud of the championship belt too. I have that feeling of do or die and my facial expression changes to one that wants to beat the opponent badly. You won't se a smile on my face when I box. I get into the mean and angry face and mode even on a heavy bag or with the former pro boxer that trained me.

  2. Boxing is finished, it is not as it use to be

  3. Any "sport" where two people try to give each other concussions is not a sport.

If you want to learn to defend yourself, try weight lifting and martial arts.

  4. Theres always someone whos got a hunger in boxing, we just arent seeing many of them in todays era.

  5. Most fighters are still hungry for wins, as it is an achievement, and its that which drives them on.

Life is easier for pretty much everyone these days though. Lots of different types of government aid is available, so modern day fighters have other means, if they need to use them, to feed themselves and their family, pay the rent, etc.

In that sense, I think that we will see less and less "ghetto" fighters coming through in the future.
