Is brown rice considered a filler in ferret food?

Also is brown rice worse or is wheat worse. Rice is gluten free so whats worse.

  1. Either is a filler, but as long as it doesn't make the fiber too high, I would prefer brown rice in my ferret's food.


  2. Both are plant matter, and thus your ferret will be unable to get any nutrition from them, so they are both filler. Ferrets are strict carnivores and lack the cecum, a body part needed to digest plant matter into a usable form. Ferrets can enjoy the taste and texture of plant-based foods, but without a meat based diet, they will starve. When you look at good ferret/cat/kitten foods for our ferret, check the ingredients list. You want as many of the first five ingredients to be meat or meat by-products as possible.

  3. wheat is worse. And brown rice is a filler, not one you would want in your ferrets food.
