  1. this is like saying what is the best martial art. there is none its just how and what aspects you train in.

  2. Bruce Lee isnt "the best" He is better in different thing than other people. There are other people who could beat him in a fight under different circumstances. So he's not the best

  3. No he is one of the most famous and possibly one of the best but there is no best in Martial art for how ever good you are there is someone better it's a never ending chain

  4. The actual record, not the unproven wild tales about him, show that he did not compete in any full contact public bouts after he boxed in high school. He was a movie star, not a competitive martial artist. Some old Chinese movie magazines I have say producers were not impressed with his abilities when they already had some stars. I lived in the neighborhood where Bruce was born for years just after his death 7/20/73, my birthday. There were 6 theaters in Chinatown, and I saw several Chinese movies each week. Bruce did not seem so great among all the martial arts stars in these movies. Only people quite naive about Chinese martial arts are overly-impressed by Bruce Lee.

  5. I have to go with Christian on this one.

Best at what? At being a human being? A fighter? A teacher?

A lot of professional fighters credit many of their wins on luck. Of course, you have to be pretty good at what you are doing in the first place to fight at the level you are.

That means, that under some circumstances, anyone can win any time. This is why the Denver Broncos don't win all the time. Or the Dolphins. Right?

Was he good at what he did? I think so. Was he a good teacher? He taught some of the top fighters for that time: Mike Stone, Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris.

Was he known as a ring fighter? No. But he did succeed in his goal: how many people know know who the first kickboxer was? Or who won the judo nationals in 1967?

What people all over the world know, however, is the name of Bruce Lee, which is why you are asking this question today.

I'd say he was a success

    :)

  6. There's little doubt that "the Little Dragon" was the most impressive and most influential FILM martial artist, and that he would have been world-class if he had chosen a competitive path, but he only fought a couple of serious fights in his short life.  "To be the best, you've got to beat the best" - so we'll never really know for sure.

  7. Anyone that says Bruce is not the best has goto have that going against everyone mentality.

Would he have been a champion fighter had he chose to do it profesionally (my guess is yes) but we'll never know for sure.

One thing's for sure though, with his reputation he must to have had guys coming at him under daily basis (real fights in an uncontrolled environment).

Many people that worked in the filming of Enter the Dragon have stated that while filming the movie, Bruce took on all comers once or twice a day. Many of the extras (lots of them reknown martial artists of the time) wanted to see if Bruce for real or not. According to John Saxon, many of these guys did found out the Hard way.

Tell you what...I'll credit Bruce as the greatest martial artist of all time

  8. The only thing Bruce Lee is now is an inspiration to others.

In his time he was renowned as a teacher and many competitive fighters went to him for train. That says a good bit, but he himself never fought competitively, so how good a fighter he was isn't clear. He was an excellent martial artist, with amazing speed and a great deal of power for such a small man.

His ideas on creating Jeet Kune Do and that each martial artist should basically study many styles and then create their own have served as motivation and inspiration to people all over the world for nearly 50 years. That and the fact that his name comes up so often still to this day in conversations about martial arts says a lot about him.

Was he the best? Depends on what you are looking for him to be the best at. Overall I would say he was a great success as an actor, a martial arts innovator and as a teacher. I doubt that he would have wanted much more than that.

  9. well in his own book the toa of jeet kune do he openly admits that Muhammad Ali would beat him and a boxer that trained intensively with him said lee admit ed to being a actor not a fighter. so in Bruce's OWN WORDS, no

  10. Yes he is.

  11. no ...he's dead.

he didnt even finish the entire wing chun system. he only trained for 3 years in wing chun.

bruce wasn't all that and a bag of chips. the thing he had going for him was simply his attributes and athleticism. i don't believe his "understanding" was all that deep. im still a huge fan though.
