  1. I went with my family when I was about 13! It's ok....there's not much like theme parks etc. There's good shopping there and there are some good restaruants from what I can remember.

  2. Watch the film "In Bruges" with colin farrel and find out for yourself!

  3. Brugge is a very interesting place to visit : it is a medieval city, very well maintained with lots of beautiful buildings and canals. You can go along the canals and visit the center of Brugge sitting in a boat with a guide wpeaking your own language. There is a huge open flea Sunday market, lots of cafés, restaurants and shops of all kinds. There is also a brewery that you can visit and which is very interesting, indeed.  One of the guides has a great sense of humour and knows how to captivate his cosmopolitan audience. It is lots of fun as is the Boudewijn Park.

If you want nature, you can go to the village of DAMME, visit the Boudewijn Park in the neighbourhood of Brugge. You also have - about 1/2 hour by car - the seaside where they have a few attraction parks e.g. Meli (honey bee parc where you can see how bees live and what they do +  different attractions) and, during the Summer, they have lots of activities going on along the seashore. You can hire a kwistaks and drive all along the seaside.

There is a website giving all the details.

    Here is their website :

    www.belgiancoast.be

It's in 4 languages so it will not be a problem.

    Hope this helps.

  4. i went earlier on in the year and it is very historical and not very commercialised with very little in the way of shops, or attractions like you say. There are plenty of cafes and canals, Its peaceful and if you are young i think you may find it boring to be honest :)

  5. There is a park called Boudewijn Seapark. This is a mini theme park with a dolphin show daily.

I have been to bruges several times with my children and we always stay at sunparks (similar to centre parcs but cheaper).

There are lots of restaurants and shops and a clock tower you can climb. There are breweries to go round and numerous boat trips. My kids always enjoyed it.

    Have a look on wikipaedia.

  6. Somebody has already mentioned Boudewijn Seapark, they have a dolphin show where you can win a ball.

Antwerpen Zoo is about 2 hours train ride away, the Zoo is next to the station.

Brugge itself is more historic kind of place with lots of well preserved architecture from middle ages onwards.  Lots of museums, horse and choach and canal sightseeing tours, lots of chocolate shops and more to get tourist to spend their money.

You can hire a bicycle for about 10 euro a day in Mariastraat (near Simon Stevenplein) and cycle to Sluis in the Netherlands, about 20 km along the canal.

Themeparks are a drive away.  There is Plopsaland in DePanne for the little ones, the Efteling in Netherlands near Tilburg, Walibi near Brussels, Phantasialand in Bruhl, Germany.  And there is Bobbejaanland somewhere near Turnhout.

You are probably wondering why I am telling you of all these far away theme parks ...?

I live a stone's throw from Brugge ... we have a burenpas to Boudewijn Seapark, it's a brilliant place to take the children.  But beyond that there is not a lot locally that is exciting.

Check out the event calender though, sometime there are good exhibitions, in the winter you get the ice sculpture.
