  1. Bullfights takes place in Spain, southern France, Portugal, and in several countries in Latin America.

Few people actually eat bull - although I have and like it quite a lot. I can't guess if the bull I'm eating came from the bullring or from one of the hundreds of bull ranches around Spain.

Is bullfighting a fair fight? No. But it's not meant to be fair either. "It's all about the process."

The movements and reactions of bulls from the stimulus put upon them by the bullfighters, "picadores", and "banderilleros" is largely predictable - except for maybe -5% of the time when the bulls get their  fill of the bullfighter. But even when this happens, I've never heard of a bull going free/alive from the ring so the result is scripted before the bullfight starts.

Whenever one organism is smarter or more agile than the other it's never a fair competition. For this same reason the North American western plains buffaloes nearly became extinct - because they were slow and dumb and couldn't run away from the rifleman's bullets - and didn't know to do so.

  2. What do you mean by fair?

    even odds?

Then it is definitely not a fair fight as on average  (and this is just speculation) one thousand bulls die for each matador...

  3. No, I don't think it's a fair fight.  I've only seen the fights on tv and they make me sad, the bulls look all worn out.  I don't see the point of torturing a poor animal.  And for the haters, I've traveled to Spain numerous times, loved it, lived with a family and loved them so it's not like I don't appreciate Spanish culture.  I just don't like this part of their culture.

  4. Well, since the concept of not playing with one's food is so much more recent than the concept of pitting oneself against difficult odds, nope.

Bullfighting is not exclusively a Spanish sport, and the concept is pretty much worldwide.

And, yeah, it kind of is a fair fight.  Some precautions are taken to protect the humans, but they are still one guy of about 175 - maybe 200 lbs against a bull which weighs over a ton.  The bull is tons stronger than the matador.
