  1. yes , it can be done smoothly . Just as smooth or smoother than regular start. Wont hurt transmission if done in the proper gear . wont hurt anything , unless u r clumsy

  2. not good for the clutch doing it regulary .

try using 2nd or 3rd gear to stop it from jerking

    good luck

  3. I would experiment with your vehicle to find the best gear to "bump start" it in, higher gears are better for getting the engine spinning if, say, push- starting, but once the engine fires the clutch needs to be disengaged faster than in lower gears. In any case, you don't need to drop the clutch suddenly, you can ease it out, that way the first "bump" is reduced. Plus, your foot is already on the clutch pedal ready to disengage it. If you have a hill to roll down, top gear is best, just roll up to a reasonable speed and ease the clutch out without accelerator. That way, you are able to just put your foot down on the throttle a little, and just pull away. Smooth as silk.

Yes, you can do damage with sudden engagements and late declutching after firing, which begs the question: Why would you need or want to clutch start, if your starter is useable? Also remember, without the engine running, power steering and brake boosting are non- existant. Plus, you must remember to turn on the ignition, or you may end up rolling with the steering still locked!

  4. Try using 2nd gear or reverse. These r usually much smoother. Over time it could cause damage, but it takes time. Easier to just fix the starter.
