  1. burn yourself and its called legal

  2. It's a gray area. Generally, making backups for your own personal use is legal. This is called the "fair use" doctrine, established in the "Betamax" decision regarding home videotaping.

It is illegal however to sell or give your copies away, including putting them up on bittorrent. RIAA is particularly nasty about the latter.

However, if you circumvent copy protection to make your copies (such as ripping a DVD with CSS on it), technically you're violating the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act). This conflicts with fair use so it is a subject of legal challenge at the moment.

  3. Yes, If you own a liscense.

For example, when you buy music on a disk or itunes, you are licensed to 1 copy of that music, but not the media that it came on.

So, for example, If you copy a cd you bought, keep the original in your safe and play the copy, then its fine...

I, for example, collect legendary games.

I have several such as the original wolfenstien, and the new tin set, half life, several wing commander, all gtas....and a few more...unopened and still in original packaging.

I have to download them illegally to play them.....because opening the box would no longer make them collectible...

  4. Yes and no. So songs, games and stuff have copy write and trade marks that states you must get the owners permission to burn it. Which means...you got to paid them a royalty fee. But some things are what they call open source and is free to burn. If you have a package of a product look for a copy write or trade mark this means pay money or go to jail. Well, if they catch ya.....
