When swimming long distances (no sprints), will breastroke always save more energy compared to butterfly ? or can a well done butterfly be a nice and power-saving alternative ? (yes, I know, front crawl beats both on speed and energy in the first place !!)

  1. i think that breaststroke is a more relaxing stroke, whereas butterfly the opposite, i mean u hav to lik bring ur arms out of the water and back in and lift ur body up to while kicking, and if u did butterfly slowly it would still be jus as tring

  2. Well, um lemmee think... YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It ishard but I have been swimming for seven years, and my best stroke is breatstroke, and I still have some work to do on my butterfly stroke.

  3. actually in any swimming distance, breaststroke is less energy efficient than butterfly. In fact it is the hardest style of all because it is the slowest.

The energy spent in a swimming race=the kinetic energy+friction (energy loss)

    and kinetic energy= 1/2 m(mass)x v^2 (velocity square),

since a human being is capable of producing a certain amount of energy at a certain time, the faster he goes means less energy is lost due to frictions. Since breaststroke is the slowest style for all the swimmers in the world means more energy is lost due to frictions hence it is the least energy efficicent style.

  4. When breaststroke is swum properly, it is the 'hardest' stroke due to the slow speed and large amount of effort needed to swim it.

However, as a relaxing, long distance swim, breaststroke is definitely the stroke to choose as appose to butterfly(: xx

  5. butterfly is definitly more tiring!. no matter how fast you go. breaststroke is probably one of the easist of the four strokes and fly is like the hardest so. yes it is more tiring.
