Is buying a mountain bike frame size 14 good or bad?

i am 5"3 and going to buy a size 14 mountain bike is this to small?

  1. so where are you buying this bike from?  the people at the store should be able to size the frame, unless its a department store like walmart, then i say don't buy that bike!!!  but this is how you size a bike to yourself.  you straddle the bike, (off the seat) and it should be about an inch to two inches at the most from your crotch, a guys bike is easy to tell cuz the bar on top is the same height and everything, but for womens if you ever have someone else in the future, and for other people that read this, you just stand closer to the front and tell from the slant bar up.  so just check that and make sure it is a good height, if the frame is too small you'll end up putting the seat up all the way and the handle bars will be to far out for you there should be a litle bend in your arm. and set the seat to where at the bottom of the pedal stroke your knee is bent just a little, and not locked in tight.


  2. 14 or 15" would be the ballpark range for you. If your shopping new for it try 15" as well. If your buying used, just take it for a ride and see if it feels good. You can adjust reach somewhat with stem length if needed.
