ill be getting either one of them via a router/modem and be using the internet for broswing the internet (google) and online ps3 gaming.

  1.   That would depend on how you define it.

Adsl would be more reliable as it is dedicated connection, while cable broadband is shared among a network.

Cable broadband is quite unstable as it depends on the amount of network users, but at non-peak periods depending on subcription plan, there is a possiblity of cable broadband acheiving higher speeds.

The "Disconnect" part actually depends on your router settings and your ISP.

I would basically recommend you adsl as i myself am using it and it is very fast.

  2. as they say depends who you talk to

every one will have someone with a horror story - its only a matter of numbers and poor service at the isp of your choice

Generally cable wi fi is easier to set up and faster

DSL can be something more finicky and is slower

However both are fine and sure are faster than dial up

    Both have advantages and disadvantages

Cable is a shared network - one giant lan

It can slow down somewhat at peak times - like after school with all the kids in your neighborhood

In most cases you will not notice great slowdowns in speed

However it is less safe than dsl, it is always on , hackers can find you

Without a router blocking the door ( somewhat) viruses can spread up and down the network easily throughout your neighborhood

DSL is more secure.  You have your own network.  You are only on when logged on.  Speeds remain constant ( although usually somewhat slower than cable , and there may be a lag on signing on)

What to look for is how far you are from the phone company station and the box in your local area ( its often a large white box)

Speeds decrease greatly as you get farther from each

    Two very good resources

even if you only have one computer get a router for your connection

if you want to hear a conversation that will go on forever , full of misinformation and misunderstood concepts ask a number of people which is better - cable or dsl internet

the conversations go on forever and lead nowhere

Many older people choose dsl and the phone companies always used to take of you - in terms of service

now neither the phone company or the cable company will go to any great lengths to help you if you have trouble lol

in the end both dsl and cable internet are fine

just do not get talked into "lite"  or "light"  services

      Poor value

      slow

The isps keep changing the names of their services to confuse you to sell you the lower speed one.  Check the name carefully

Last year it the high speed service may of been called high speed

Now the high speed may be the lite and the regular high speed internet is called "lightening"  as an example

       fun and games
