  1. Who has he beat?  That's how you measure things like that.  He really has not faced the competition it takes to be a legend.  Now I'm not saying that is necessarily his fault I'm just saying that's the way it is.  Look at all the greats,  they have fought other greats and Calzaghe has not.

  2. Yeah, in Whales, but everywhere else he's just a boxer.

  3. I love watching Clazaghe! He's not a hard hitter but he boxes clever and he's no spring chicken either!

He's fractured his hand during the Manfredo fight, broke it in his defence fight against Ashira and he continued the fight and succeeded! Because his hands are fragile, I believe he avoids the hard shots, uses his brain and boxes in a smart way.

I think the only reason he isn't considered by some to be a legend is because he hasn't basked in the limelight and not received much media attention and many people haven't really heard his name before. But if you watch his fights you'll be entertained and impressed with this guys skills!

Best of luck to Calzaghe, I hope he defeats the racist fool who goes by the name of Hopkins.

  4. I'm American and I do believe he is a legend and I expect him to be a first ballot hall of famer. He is the greatest super middleweight of all time, made 21 defenses, MIGHT end his career with an undefeated record, and he is probably the greatest British boxer of all time. A lot of people will ask "who has he beat?" Well its not his fault that division is weak and that the division has been dominated by Europeans ever since James Toney and Roy Jones vacated the division and he has also beaten all the top American fighters at the 168 lb division. He may not have the greatest resume but his win against Kessler was very impressive. IF he beats Hopkins he will receive more credit by the general public and that will be his stamp of approval, but IMO he will be in the hall of fame. So yes he is a living legend. I don't like his style but he is still a great fighter and IMO is the 2nd best fighter in the world. Only Mayweather is better.

  5. Calzaghe is the man. I love watching him fight. Dude got mad skills. But even though he is undefeated, the man is not a legend yet. He definitely has to defeat Hopkins, which is no easy task. And the fight would have to be a truly awesome fight, and can't see that happening with Hopkins on the other side of the ring.

But if anyone can stop Hopkins it's Super Joe. With his constant pressure and punching angles and hand speed, I think he can wear down Hopkins and eventually stop him late. Hopkins fights in spurts and Joe won't let him rest a single second of any round. If Hopkins brings some pop to his game and captures his attention, Joe might not pressure 100%, but that is the only way I can see Hopkins not being stopped late in the fight. Man I am exicited for this fight. It's gonna be great to see two masters go at it. I keep flip flopping on this one.

  6. Absooo d**n lutely....

He has magnetism character and most of all A*bility.

People who dont even like boxing love him... Hes a tough lad with family roots... and he has fantastic speed agility and technique he is the master of the side step!!!

Sorry but did someone just spell Wales - Whales? I am English I do apologise for this insult.... to both our nations. good grief

  7. He is a legend over in europe. Not here in the U.S.A yet. He has to prove himself to the fans over here by beating B-Hop which I think he will easily do. I thought him and Kessler's fight was legendary.

  8. if he beats bernard, then absolutely. he must win that fight though, to be considered an all time great. other notable european fighters have come over and crumbled in their first big one over here. hatton, mcguigan, etc. kessler in his first test with joe being another example. i think joe can beat hopkins. if he does, there's no doubt about it.

  9. maybe in the UK but thats like me being a champ fighting grade school kids and I'm 30 yrs old lol. He will lose his next fight I must say I never heard of him till he bet left hook lacy, but he hasnt lost a fight who the h*** was he fighting before left hook , no one knows?

  10. next gen he might be

  11. If he stays undefeated then I would assume so. The thing is you can only be classed as a legend in the generation after yours, if people are still talking about you then it is so.

  12. To be a legend you have to beat legends.....who has calzaghe beaten? his fight against hopkins is a joke, kopkins is 42 years old, what kind of fight is that?, if he wanted to be seen as a legend he should have fought outside of wales and come to America to face hopkins in his prime, he should have come to America to face Roy Jones in his prime, had he done that then he would have been considered a legend....right now he is a legend in wales but to everyone else he is just a good boxer.

  13. there's a young lad here in nottingham -carl froch who calzaghe has been ducking for the last two years-if he beats him then he's a legend.

  14. Well Calzaghe is the best Super Middleweight theres ever been, period. So that alone puts him well on his way.

He has it all, a decent punch, great chin, fast hands, great mobility, a great boxing brain, great stamina, dedication and humility.

Only one or two fighters in the history of the sport have made as many defences, or reigned as long, so id say, yes, he has to be considered a boxing legend.

Those who say he should have to have fought in the USA to be a legend are talking utter s**t! How often did Joe Louis fight outside the USA?, errm never! Ho many LEGENDS did he beat? None! And yet he is considered a legend.

Is the bloody USA the center of the universe or something? I think not! And how many great Super Middleweights have the USA produced anyway! lol

Also, some americans need to get their facts straight, both Jones and Hopkins DUCKED Calzaghe in the past, thats FACT!

Just jealousy and bigotry from parochial yanks too thick to understand there is a world beyond their borders.

  15. no! not in america where it counts.he's good but he has to fight more americans.

  16. Seriously not! If he were in the same weight class of pacquiao, He would not stand a chance of lasting four rounds.

  17. Blogbaba said it. Although if he beats Hopkins and possibly Pavlik (hey it could happen) he could be a legend.

  18. Think he has to beat Hopkins in his next fight before he is classed as a legend, he is undefeated in over ten years i would say he was a legend. he has beaten everyone he has faced and he also destroyed Lacey. but he definitely has to beat Hopkins for the Americas sit up and take notice.Only a small number of fighters have retired undefeated if Calzaghe beats Hopkins he will definitely retire. Then no one can question his ability

  19. they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder huh?!
