Other than the obvious fact that one shoots a cannon and the other dosent. What i mean as similar is if a squad of infantry went up against a squad of cannon crew members with just rifles and a basic squad based engagement what would happen, and please no ignorant comments on how the infantry would crush cannon crew member blah blah blah, no id radther a professional answer or fact.

  1. The Field Artillery(king of battle) will always be there to support our infantry. It's a combined arms effort. One supporting the other.

  2. I've heard on goarmy.com forums that Cannon Crew members are similar to infantry, only they work with artillery (duh) and often times cannon crew members are used as infantry.

  3. King of battle (Field Artillery) vs. queen of battle (Infantry). FA would blow up the Inf prior to them even seeing the FA. But seriously they are both important parts of the military and are both combat arms. FA is typically away and Foward Observers or infantry guys would call for fire support from the field artillery guys.

However in this day and age it doesnt matter, you go to Iraq and most everyone trains for full spectrom operations, meaning everything from clearing rooms/houses, to Traffic Controll points, to convoy patrols / Convoy Logisticial Patrol's, ect.

One on one with just rifles however I would go with infantry cause they  that is there job and all they train for.

  4. They are similar in this particular day and age however that is not the way it should be. As myself being a 13B I was trained in basic combat training on infantry tactics and full spectrum operations however I am first and foremost an artilleryman. We shoot our howitzers NOT rifles. However when I was sent to combat I was used in daily patrol missions and a checkpoint holt station. I Didnt shoot my howitzer very often because you cant shoot a shell with a kill radius of 300+ meters in an alley or marketplace! But our day to day operations when not in a deployment phase consists of maintaing a howitzer and learning our coordinates and practicing azmuths and dry fire with a cannon! Outside of BCT I dont shoot my rifle except during mandatory marksmanship qualifications. Infantry trains exstensively on hand to hand , infantry tactics, marksmanship, and does alot more p.t. So no we are not very similar

  5. The Infantry guys. Here's why: We practice this stuff everyday and know it better than most. Infantry: Basic Combat Troop.

  6. They are two completely different jobs. There really aren't any similarities. The only one that comes to mind is the 11C indirect fire infantryman uses a mortar tube that is similar in concept to the effect of a howitzer but much less boom!

Details on question above: infantry squad (11B)vs. squad of cannon crewmembers (13B). Well I'm going to go with the infantry guys on this one. They are trained and proficient in battle drills namely battle drill 1A which is squad attack. It's a flanking movement inwhich one of the teams will move either left of right of the enemy and flake across the battle area. Cannon crewmembers aren't taught the many different techniques required to pull this off. It's just not their cup of tea.
