  1. Ive seen it utilized in various tekken video games. But I've never seen anyone use it in real life.

  2. More of a dance.

However its value in martial arts is limited to it being a sneaky way of suprising an opponent via unorthodox technique- eg. spinning backfist, scissor kick takedown, etc

    eg. capoiera example in mma

You'll find a good degree of flexibility in copoeira. But also you''ll get good muscle conditioning akin to swimming almost.

    Its better as a dance.

But its value in martial arts can only be seen as supllementary. That certain moves can be employed to help round out your primary arsenal.

    hope this helps please rate

    THanks

  3. Its a bit of both, but u have to be really careful when using it in the street, u need alot of space to be doing its ginga(i think thats how u spell it) but their kicks(because they put their whole body into it) and take downs are nice, also givesu an extreme amount of body strength and flexibilty

  4. am brazilian capoiira is a dance but a true fighting style

  5. I have seen it used in sparring sessions and it has some pretty moves. I've also seen interpretations of some of the movements, but have my doubts as it being very effective. That said, it is only my personal opinion, and the real answer lies within the practitioner themselves.

  6. Uh, seeing as how none of these people do capoeira, except for maybe the Brazilian guy, I'd say don't listen to them.  It's like asking a biker whether running if effective or not to get in shape.

Some schools teach it as a dance and some schools teach it purely as a way of fighting.  Others will teach you capoeira as capoeira, meaning it has fighting techniques but also 'pretty moves' which have to do with capoeira's history/culture.

If you want to learn capoeira in order to fight or defend yourself, try to find classes that are associated with the group ABADA near you, if you can't find them see what you think of the classes near you.

Capoeira is just as effective as any other martial art, you just need to know when to use what.  Obviously some of the moves we have are for show, b/c that is part of capoeira's culture, and obviously some capoeira moves are meant TO FIGHT OTHER CAPOEIRISTAS, so in a fight you wouldn't use these.  Many people criticize the ginga, but if you break the ginga down it is essentially just continous switching from an orthodox boxing stance to an unorthodox boxing stance.

A lot of people are going to say capoeira isn't effective, but a lot of people also say that Tae Kwan Do isn't effective, or karate isn't effective.  Well they are ignorant.  Thats all I have to say for now.

  7. It's a martial art, but I doubt it could be used in a real fight. I can't say for sure as I've never taken it, nor fought someone who was using it.

  8. I really can't say as I've never practiced it before, but I'm familar with it and I know it's not just a dance.  As far as being effective in combat, I can't say.

  9. Dancing karate.
