I want to know what all is in car exhaust? Is it pure carbon monoxide that comes out of a car or is there oxygen mixed in with it? If so, what other gasses are in exhaust?

Thanks!

  1. Mostly it is nitrogen (since that is what air is mostly comprised of to start with),  carbon DIoxide and water vapor.  Carbon monoxide is just a very small part.  And depending on the fuel, the can be trace amounts of various nitrous oxidies and sulfur oxides,

  2. Ummmmm.....

    Lets see....

There the oxides of Nitrogen, the oxides of carbon, the oxides of sulfur, and the oxides of a dozen or so minor and trace elements along with water vapor and varrious particulates.

This is what I remember from being on the team that worked to create the first computer predictive model to predict smog alerts in the Los Angeles basin.

  3. There is also water vapor and other inert gases along with hydrocarbons, sulfur-dioxide and some oxygen

  4. no. as well as those other gases already mentioned there are also impurities found from the fuel in gaseous form
