  1. since  fire NEEDS oxygen to burn i would assume that carbon dioxide is NOT combustable

  2. Its not but it is very good at putting out fires.

  3. No

  4. no.

  5. By defintion, CO2 is ;

    a colorless, odorless, non-combustible gas, present in low concentrations in the air we breathe (about three hundredths of one percent by volume). Carbon dioxide is produced when any substance containing carbon is burned. It is also a product of breathing and fermentation. Plants absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis.

  6. No, but carbon monoxide is.  Under heat and pressure and in the presence of oxygen, carbon monoxide will take on an extra molecule to form carbon dioxide.

    So CO2 is in a fairly stable state.  This is why it can remain in the atmosphere for over 100 years, and why scientists are struggling to figure out how to slow down global warming.

    A car that is running with too much fuel (rich condition), or with a clogged air filter (starved for oxygen) will produce excess CO as a product of incomplete combustion.  When CO2 is produced it is considered complete combustion because CO2 can not combust anymore

  7. Three necessities for combustion:

    Heat

    Fuel

    Oxygen
