Is cat hair loss normal?

I know its summer and hot and my cat should be shedding but in the past few days shes lost a ton of hair on and around her ears. it has been the hottest days of summer but i dont know if its normal.

Oh yeah, especially towards the end of the Summer, She's probably just growing in new hair, and shedding the old.

Yep, generally it's pretty normal for cats to shed hair. With my cats, though, I can't usually tell where on their bodies they're losing it FROM--if parts of them are going bald, that might be some sort of disease that you want to get checked out. You said around her ears--are you sure you don't mean the neck? Sometimes the collar can chafe and cause cats to lose hair around their neck.

Cats shed all year around...check your ac or furnace filter and you will find a thick layer of cat hair.  If there are patches of bare skin that is not normal and you should check with a vet.  If you brush or comb her there may be some hair on the brush/comb.  but if you take a pinch of hair between thumb and forefinger and pull (GENTLY) and a bunch of hair comes out easily that is not normal.  For a treat in hot weather put an ice cube in her drinking water.  a cat can be a lot of company to you...enjoy!!

It's normal for cats to shed in the summer, but it's not normal for them to develop bald spots.  If you're concerned it's always a good idea to check with the vet.

You might make sure she doesnt have any bald spots.  My friend Sarah, had a cat that had some sort of anxiety disorder and she lost hair and started going bald (the cat, not Sarah).  They had to give her kitty valium.

Please make sure she doesn't have fleas, which could be eating the skin near her ears.  But, shedding is normal, especially in the summer... my cats are shedding like crazy!

look inside her ears to make sure there is nothing that looks like black "dirties" in her ear, if so it could be mites making her ears itch her and of course she would scratch all the hair off. i noticed the ear mite bug has gotten bad lately and its much harder to detect than fleas which would also bite you. if so the vet, or even local pet department has ear mite drops. if her ears are pink and healthy inside then odds are she is loosing the rest of her winter coat from last year as it takes big fluffy cats longer than short hairs to loose all that excess fur.

YA TOTALLY THERE BODY DOES IT NATURALLY DONT WORRY ABOUT IT THEY WILL GROW IT BACK IN THE WINTER
