Question:

Is celibacy a problem in RC church?

The Roman Catholic Church adopts compulsory celibacy and chastity as inextricable requirements for priestly and religious life. Worldwide, sexual scandals became the top issues among the clergy. As the Philippines is the fourth largest Catholic nation in the world, do you call on the RC church to abolish the discipline of celibacy to her clergy?

  1. As a non Catholic perhaps I can make an observation ? Prior to the Reformation priests were often married and had families . Seems a more healthy situation than celibacy which seems to have little to argue in its favour even ecclesiastically .

  2. priests who are celibate are able to function better as a priest.  those who cannot keep the vow of celibacy should not force themselves to a vocation that is definitely not them.

going back to the question if "celibacy is a problem in the roman catholic church?" unfortunately, it is.  any solutions for the problem?  i can't offer any.

  3. Celibacy is not the cause of the sexual abuse scandal.  There are sexual abuse scandals in public schools that is even worse and teachers are not required to be celibate.

  4. the priests prior to becoming one, must undergo a rigid training in the seminary, though not physical but still it entails the psychological or mental discipline. this way, they could learn to do away with their so called 'evil' desires and that includes being celibate. whoever could not stick to this kind of life would then have the choice to leave the seminary instead of being a man for the lord.

but...i think celibacy is not the issue here. there are still cases of harassments, rapes, scandals all over the world which does not only involve the priests. bottom line is..sexual desires (priests are still humans) should have another outlet, hehe

  5. yes its a problem .. i think blue balls syndrome is causing it.

the vatican has a say in that but i would agree if that will help curb preists victimizing children to satisfy their needs.
