  1. It is variably defined either as the southern portion of North America, which connects with South America on the southeast, or as a region of the American continent in its own right. Most of Central America is considered to be part of the Mesoamerican biodiversity hotspot.

    Cheers =)

    Edit: Funny how ths could get thumbs down, when it's off of Wiki.. lol..

  2. Conventionally, it's considered part of North America. If you look at a map, it's clear why -- it's a sort of tail to North America that suddenly butts into South America.

  3. no. I think its part of South...

  4. No, Central America is not a continent, nor is it part of North or South America.  It is an isthmus connecting the two continents.

    "Central America, region of the western hemisphere, made up of a long, tapering isthmus that forms a bridge between North and South America."

  5. a central geographic region of the Americas.

  6. No, it's considered part of the North American continent.

  7. It is not a separate continent.......and it is definitely considered to be a part of North America.

    The term Central America is used to denote the part of North America that starts at the Southern border of Mexico right up to Panama. By no means is it a part of South America.

  8. Technically, it is a part of North America.

    Only hispanics like to disassociated with the rest of north america and "gang" themselves up with the rest of the spanish south america

    Think about it.  Where should central america begin?  At the US-Mexican border?  Or at the Mexican border to Guatemala-Belize?

    It may be its own cultural region, but it is not a continent of its own.  And it sure as heck isnt a part of the South American continent... I cant believe ANYONE would say that who isnt blinded by cultural bigotry

    In actuality, though, North and South America should not really be considered two continents.  They are one, connected landmass that sits on one tectonic plate.  There is no reason not to consider "the Americas" as one continent in its entirety.

  9. It is clearly part of North America.
