Question:

Is changing a beer barrel/keg potentially dangerous?

I'm curious because I'm starting work in a pub and I said I could change beer barrels but I can't remember exactly what to do. I have done it before- it's just been over a year since I last worked as a barman so I am a bit rusty.

  1. Don't you dare spill any of that precious liquid.  Ask for assistance the first few times.  It's not rocket science, after all.

  2. Always uncouple the gas at the keg before you do any thing else and you will be fine. Reconnect the gas after you have locked the the main coupling.  always do this until you become proficient.

No one spears the kegs anymore so you are pretty safe in that way.

The only danger now days is the gas in the bottles is lethal in confined spaces so make sure its turned off properly at close. Though in twenty five years I've never heard of any accidents.

  3. Yes, you could hurt your back, or worse, you could drop it on your foot.......ouch!!!
