  1. Yes it absorbs organic impurities well.


  2. Granular activated carbon, usually derived from charcoal, is used in domestic water treatment systems to remove organic compounds.

  3. It does take out many gases. It can get filled with bacteria after awhile, and then be a contaminant. It does not take out dissolved solutes that are tiny in size.
