Is cheesecake technically a cake or pie?

Question

It's something I was thinking about today. What is this dessert, technically? I know it has 'cake' in the name, but sometimes the names of foods can be misleading (examples; blueberries and blackberries are actually purple, smoothies aren't so smooth since there's bits of fruit in them, a pineapple has neither pine nor apple in the fruit, etc...).

Or maybe it's both?
