  1. Chess is mainly a strategy game, and the idea of the game is to put the opposing player in check mate. The rules are simple, but the game itself is all about thought. Most people say that the pawn piece can move any direction, which it can't. It can only move up once, and take an opposing piece diagonally.

Chess is a good game to learn, so learn it. :)

  2. Yes. Chess is a good game to learn because it helps you with thinking. In chess, you have to stragetize and concentrate, otherwise you will not succeed. It is kind of like life in a way, if you don't concentrate or are not a good thinker, you most likely will not get far.

  3. Chess will not appeal to everyone, but I love it. It has been said that its popularity stems from the fact that it is just difficult enough that no one can fully master it, but not so difficult that humans can't become very adept at it. Therefore the very best grandmasters still find it a real challenge, yet they can produce games of stunning beauty. Some games we have on record are still played over hundreds of years later because of the brilliancy of the play. There are many well known "Immortal games". These games have the appeal of masterpieces of art. It's probably just a happy accident, but the byplay of the different pieces lends itself to creatively artistic sequences of moves.

Another appeal, especially for me, is that chess can be played in different styles. For example, among world champions, Petrosian was a tremendous defensive player, whereas Mikhail Tal was a brilliant attacking player. Thus you can impose your own personality upon the chessboard. It was only when I discovered this fact that I became really interested in chess. My next discovery was that there are "principles of play". That is, if you learn certain ideas about the centre, about castling, or developing your pieces to the right squares, etc, then you can suddenly become much better very quickly. In other words the game is not random. There are known strategies.

  4. Absoluteley. It teaches you strategy, when to move next, and teaches lfie skills, as well as anticipation of other peoples strategies.

  7. Chess is the perfect game; it is a mix of geometry, math, physic, music, poetry, and many other things; its litteraly endless, you would need 100 billions of years to calculate, at 3,000,000 moves per seconds, all the positions you can create in the chessboard; it is a life teacher: you learn patience, logic thinking, problem solving; and of course you get fun, relax but also tough challenges, incredible and wonderful human mind's conceptions in great masters'games.

I could go on for long, I suppose.

Chess is a good game to learn, my friend.
