Is chess just for dorks?

I love to play chess. Do you think of people that like chess as a dork? Why? Thanks!

  1. No chess is for everyone.  But skill levels vary wildly.  It's a good idea to find someone around the same skill level as you, and someone who is a good teacher.  You might also consider Backgammon, which you can learn in 5 minutes and play casually at most skill levels.

  8. NO! its a challenging game for people that actually want to stay smart. i really like the game chess its just a group of stereotypes that made up chess is a game for geeks its just a game.

  9. Chess is all about strategic thinking and being able to see several moves ahead of your opponent.  I don't think it makes you a dork, I think it helps develop reasoning and critical thinking skills that you use in other facets of life.

  10. I used to play chess, other board games, or a game of cards.

    Since computers my strategy games are now played online, because it allows me to interact with more people in a more dynamic environment.

    I also like being automatically matched with more complex challenges or players.

No, that is not true.  People who play chess are smart.  The know how to think and plan strategy.  People who call them names such as "dork" often do that because they know that they are not as smart as the people who play chess.  Don't pay any attention to the people who do that, and continue to play chess and enjoy it, and be proud of who you are.
