Which material is better? Is chiffon better than taffeta?

Are they both good? Which one makes that plastic ruffle noise? Is that taffeta?

Thanks!

  1. go with the chiffon because taffeta "talks" when you walk!

  2. Taffeta and chiffon are VERY different. Chiffon is a very light, airy fabric appropriate for summer and for very unstructured gowns, whereas taffeta is a heavier, stiffer fabric that is better for cold weather or for gowns with more structure (and it makes the rustling noise, as do heavy silks and satins).

Both of them have merits and drawbacks, and your choice will be dictated by what style gown you prefer, the season of your wedding, etc. Don't choose a fabric and look for a gown made out of it. Try on several different styles and shapes of dresses and figure out what suits you best.

  3. Chiffon is a transparent fabric of sheer silk or rayon. Taffeta is a crisp, lustrous, light-weave fabric.

Chiffon tends to be softer and more breathable while taffeta can feel tight and look cheap. Yes, taffeta makes that noise. :)

  4. Silk and/or chiffon. Taffeta looks cheap, and it makes noise.

  5. Chiffon is lovely--it has a flowing quality to it, which I adore.

  6. taffeta is hard and makes noise when you move it. chiffon is more elegant and it falls better, it is also pricier, but worth it.

  7. It depends what you want. Do you want a crisp fabric or do you want a soft flowing one? It's apples and oranges to compare them: we can tell you what's better for a specific application (wedding gowns is too general), but anything more general would be preference.
