My sister wants to start college and is interested in becoming a teacher aid. So they tell her she has to take early childhood development and others tell her to take child development. Are they the same thing or are they different and how? If anyone can help who knows it will be great and please only serious answers.

  1. They are a continuous process.  Early childhood development is the beginning of childhood development and covers the baby through kinder stages.

So early childhood studies just focus in more depth on those early years while child development is broader and covers from baby to teen years.

It's a good idea to study child development first as it gives a broader perspective of the stages a child passes through.  This means you can see where the early development is leading & what it is important to achieve as a foundation for future learning.

Then if you want to work with the little ones consolidate with more detail in the early child development courses.

  2. yes but for different ages

  3. Yes they are different it has to do with the age group.   First she has to decide whether she want to work as a aid in a daycare to kindergarten age group which is the early childhood.  Or does she want to work in Kindergarten  I am not sure but let say Fifth grade.  What she should do is visit school and see which one she will like better.  If she is going for teacher aid why not go for teaching instead.

  4. They are the same.

  5. yes

  6. Early child developement generally covers ages 0-5.  So, it's likely she'll need to take some college courses that relate to early childhood.  The classes are offered at 2-year colleges (less expensive).  A 4-year college degree is not required to be a teacher's aide.  However, many people work as an aide and attend college at the same time.  They use an aide position as a stepping stone to prepare them for a career in education (teacher).  Depends on your sister's long-term goal.
