I want to know if chlorophyll is a ketone. Every type of chlorophyl (a, b, c1, c2, d) has a C=O bond plus i noticed the alchahol functional group. So is it a ketone?

  1. Several biological molecules have a more than one functional group attached to them.

Technically, when a C=O group is present, the molecule will undergo all (or nearly all) of the reactions that a normal ketone undergoes.

I personally would not call chlorophyll a ketone, because by the same reasoning, it also can be considered to be an ester and an alkene due to the presence of RCOOR and C=C groups respectively.

Its better to refer to chlorophyll a as an organic molecule or a composite molecule having several different functional groups.
