I know it melts when it's heated up but how far does it degrade?

  1. That's a broad question but If you mean biodegradable, then yes, it will degrade into its respective molecular components eventually if left outside in the environment.  Remember, you can digest it in the delicate internal environment of our bodies, breaking it up into small molecules like glucose and fatty acids which provide energy for the body, so it wil surely degrade in the harsh external environment outside.

If you apply sufficient energy in the form of heat to a bar of chocolate, it will undergo pyrolysis whereby it's completely dehydrated and eventually turned into carbon aka burning.

    Hope this helps!
